Water Polo Event FAQ:

Q: Where do athletes, coaches, and counselors stay during camp?

A: For the 4th year of our international camp, athletes, coaches, and counselors will stay at the Holiday Inn, University Center, just across the street from the University of Florida. Located a few minutes away from the pool and the University of Florida Dining Hall. The Holiday Inn at University Center provides Camp with a ~3000 square foot conference center (game room) with multi-media options. We use this conference center for camp breakfast, afternoon activities, coaches talks, meetings, and games. The room also has a ping pong table, board games, and TV’s on the walls that athletes can use to share their game consoles with other athletes or watch movies together. Campers are instructed to spend their free time in the game room rather than their sleeping rooms. Breakfast is served in the game room, allowing us to get to the pool quickly in the morning.

Q. Who will be supervising the athletes during camp?

A: Our camp counselors (predominantly UF Student Athletes) have all been background checked and have taken the US Center for Safe Sport Training. Camp adheres to Safe Sport Policies for all adult and youth athlete contact. We also hold training sessions for our camp staff to ensure camp policies are enforced. (https://uscenterforsafesport.org/)

Campers are monitored continuously in the 2nd-floor conference center.

Sub-section of Camp policies:

*No males in female rooms and visa versa.

*No males on the female floor and visa versa.

Camp staff enforces all camp policies. Male counselors supervise the male athlete floor, and female counselors supervise the female floor. Counselor doors are left open a large majority of the time to observe floor traffic. At 10:00 pm, counselors check every room for the correct occupants and remind athletes who their on-duty counselor is and what room they are in if any issues arise during the lights-out period.

Q: I have reserved my athlete’s spot for camp already. When will I make the final payment for registration?

A: If you have already reserved your athlete’s spot by paying $250 of the tuition, you will receive a link by email in April to complete the final payment for registration.

Q: Is the Pre-camp Sunday night hotel included in the Residential tuition payment?

A: No. Residential tuition includes room and board from Monday 8:30 am to Friday 1:00 pm. Athletes checking in on Sunday evening need to add an extra pre-camp Sunday night. Families can add it when they receive the link for the final payment.

Q: Are meals included with camp registration?

A: Lunch is provided daily for everyone (including day campers). Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included for residential campers.

Q: Do I need to send my flight information at the time of registration?

A: Not necessarily. If you do not have the flight reservation at the time of registration, you can email it to us whenever you book the flight.

Q: When do I choose airport pick-up/drop-off and video analysis?

A: By mid-April, everyone will receive a link for the final payment. You can then choose airport pickup/drop-off or video analysis.

Q: Can I choose my roommate(s)?

A: Yes. When you complete your registration, you can let us know whom you want to room with. We try to room everyone with their roommate requests.

Q: How many athletes will be in a room?

A: There will be 3-4 athletes per room. There is the possibility of having two athletes per room. If the family chooses this option, there will be a $120 extra fee per athlete.

You can select this option when you receive the final payment link.

Q: How often do athletes take breaks during training?

A: Athletes take breaks every 45 minutes to hydrate and apply sunscreen. It is mandatory due to the hot sunny weather in Florida. Athletes must bring sunscreen to camp, and camp staff enforces its use.

Q: Can parents attend the Friday tournament?

A: Yes. Parents can attend our Friday tournament at 10:00 am.

Q: When and where is camp checkout?

A: Camp ends at 1:00 pm at the pool. Day and residential campers need to be picked up at the pool at 1:00 pm.

Q: Can I save $50 from the registration fee?

A: Yes, you can if you reserve your athlete’s spot before January 31st.

Q: How can I avoid paying credit card fees on registration (3%)?

A: You can pay registration fees by check or Venmo to avoid paying credit card fees. You can email us, and we will send you the correct payment procedure.
